Horlivka police chief beaten up for tearing Russian flag

KYIV. April 15 (Interfax) - Ukraine's interior minister, Arsen Avakov, said the police chief in the town of Horlivka in the Donetsk region was beaten up when anti-government activists were storming the building of the city police department.

"Andriy Kryshchenko was captured and beaten up. Some of the pro-Russian websites earlier claimed that he was killed after he offered resistance. It's a lie," Avakov wrote on Facebook on Monday morning. Medical aid was provided to Kryshchenko and his condition is "more or less satisfactory," Avakov said.

Reports said earlier that an activist raised a Russian flag above the building when the police department was being stormed. Kryshchenko removed and tore the flag, and pushed the activist from the roof. This was followed by an attack on Kryshchenko.
