South Korea's DSME discussing cooperation on building ships in Primorye

VLADIVOSTOK. April 15 (Interfax) - Representatives of South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) visiting Primorye discussed the possibility of cooperation on the design and construction of supply ships and offshore platforms under the Zvezda shipyard in Bolshoi Kamen.

OJSC Far East Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC), a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), said in a press release that the delegation, led by DSME executive vice president Om Han Sop, visited the construction site where Russia's largest shipbuilding facility is being built.

The shipyard will be able to build all types of ships and vessels, but will specialize in particularly large vessels and facilities for development of Russia's continental shelf.

Equipment is now being installed in the hull production workshops. A section cutting line and line for processing metal sheets are being installed in the first two bays. The hull production shops, consisting of six large bays, will be outfitted with machine tools and automated lines throughout 2014.

A meeting was held at FESRC headquarters after the tour of the construction site. The meeting was attended by Igor Borbot, director of equipment and technology localization at state oil major Rosneft (MOEX: ROSN); Zvezda CEO Yury Filchyonok; and FESRC deputy CEO Roman Gorbunov.

They discussed the possibility of cooperation in the area of design and construction of supply vessels and offshore platforms. Following the meeting, the representatives of DSME and the Russian companies approved a plan for further work.
