Three Russians injured in South Sudan shooting

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Five employees from a Russian company, including three Russians, have been injured in South Sudan as a result of a shooting between government troops and armed opposition forces, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Five employees of the Russian company Safinat, which is building an oil refinery, were accidentally shot and injured as a result of military clashes between government troops and armed opposition forces near the city of Bentiu, the administrative center of the Southern Sudanese state of Unity, on April 14. Three Russian citizens - M. Bakhmetyev, M. Semennikov and V. Seliutin - sustained minor injuries; Ukrainian citizen M. Datsko and Kenyan citizen J. Konessi sustained medium-gravity injuries," the ministry said on its website.

The injured along with two other Russians who asked for evacuation will be moved to the UN mission base from which they will flown by a helicopter to the South Sudanese capital, the city of Juba.

"The Russian ministry again stongly recommends Russian citizens planning trips to South Sudan to take into account the complicated military and political situation in this country and the serious risks to their personal safety," the ministry said.
