MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - The active phase of the counter-terrorism operation - held by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and Interior Ministry's special purpose units in Makhachkala and headed by the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK) headquarters - has ended, the NAK information center said.
"Upon carrying out a complex of investigative proceedings, the FSB has received information on a possible location of a group of bandits in a house in the village of Stepnoy of Makhachkala's Leninsky district. (…) Two minors and a woman - wife of the house owner - have been taken from the named address. Right after this, bandits, who were in the house, opened fire from automatic arms at law enforcement officers," the NAK statement obtained by Interfax on Tuesday said.
Chief of the NAK headquarters introduced the counter-terrorism regime in the named region at 1.20 p.m. The house and area surrounding it were blocked by special purpose units. People living near the area, where the counter-terrorism regime was introduced, were evacuated for security reasons, the document said.
"While carrying out military contact, one special services employee was injured and two sustained burns," the NAK said.
"The active phase of the operation has been completed. Armed resistance of bandits has been suppressed. According to the preliminary information, four militants have been killed. Investigative proceedings will be continued in the morning," the statement said.
