PYATIGORSK. April 16 (Interfax) - Thirty six terrorism-related crimes were committed in the North Caucasus Federal District in January-March 2014, the press office of the Interior Ministry Main Directorate for the district said in a statement citing directorate head Sergei Chenchik.
"Seven hundred thirty four successful special operations and events have been held, 76 members of bandit formations, including 14 bandit leaders, were killed, 153 militants and accomplices were detained and seven members of illegal armed formations were convinced to surrender," the document said.
Twenty citizens have been affected by bandit actions and ten of them have died.
A total of 19 militant bases and 78 stashes have been liquidated and three guns, 20 grenade launchers, 484 firearms, 293 grenades, 233 shells and mines, 49 home-made explosive devices, 207.6 kg explosive substances, and 101.5 kg explosive components have been seized.
