TBILISI. April 16 (Interfax) - Tbilisi does not see a direct threat from Russia, however it is discontent with the erection of border constructions at the border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
"At this stage we do not register any open resistance, which could occur with Russia and we do not see an open threat from it despite the fact that, unfortunately, analogues took place in 2008 and due to the situation in Ukraine in 2014," Margvelashvili told reporters on Tuesday.
At the same time, Russia does not assist resolving conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, he said.
"Unfortunately, many instances of Russia violating Georgian airspace in conflict areas exist. They are regular but we do not tie them to any political event. We register our protests all the time and try to bring information to Moscow via channels we have in European capitals that violating airspace of a sovereign country does not add any dignity for Russia in the family of civilized states," Margvelashvili said.
Russia installs wire fences in conflict zones in order to not allow communication between Georgians, Abkhazians and Ossetians, the president said.
"We tell the international community that Russia is illegally trying not to allow a peaceful resolution of the conflicts and issues between ethnicities of our country," Margvelashvili said.
