Odesa anti-Maidan declares "Odesa Republic", calls for blocking traffic

ODESA. April 16 (Interfax) - Odesa anti-Maidan has declared the Odesa region "the Odesa People's Republic" and called on city residents to block traffic.

The appeal was posted on the anti-Maidan social networking webpage and their website. "From today on the Odesa region shall be the Odesa People's Republic, in which the entirety of power belongs to the people living on its territory," the statement runs.

Anti-Maidan activists urged city residents to block traffic in Odesa.

They created a map in the Yandex service indicating 153 pedestrian crossings where Odesa residents should come to block traffic. It is not clear from the report when exactly the action may be held, either on April 16 or on April 17.

"Odesa must come to a halt at 4 p.m.! Literally! It is your task to block the intersections indicated on the map in due time [4 p.m.] with your cars. Pedestrians must come to crossings and stay there. Create the maximum number of jams across the city," the appeal runs.

Anti-Maidan activists said they wanted to block the traffic completely but would make an exception for ambulance vehicles.
