Russia supports de-escalation in eastern Ukraine at Geneva talks - Ukrainian foreign minister

KYIV. April 18 (Interfax) - The Russian delegation attending key four-way talks in Geneva supported the need to de-escalate the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine and agreed to contribute to these efforts, acting Ukrainian Foreign Minster Andriy Deshchytsia said.

"In this statement [adopted in Geneva] Russia agreed to help de-escalate the situation in the eastern regions," he told Interfax after Thursday's meeting.

This statement came as "a kind of test that showed the degree to which the willingness and determination of the sides, primarily Russia, to help de-escalate the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine is sincere," the Ukrainian official said.
