Ukraine premier expects Russia to promptly implement Geneva statement

KYIV. April 18 (Interfax) - Kyiv expects Moscow to promptly start to fulfill the conditions of the statement that was signed by Russian, EU, U.S. and Ukrainian foreign ministers in Geneva on Thursday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.

"We are appealing to Russia, which should implement what the Russian foreign minister has signed without any delays and leave Ukraine alone," he said at a Ukrainian government session on Thursday evening.

Representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe will monitor the course of implementing the document, he added.

At their meeting in Geneva on Thursday, Russian, EU, U.S. and Ukrainian foreign ministers adopted a statement outlining initial concrete steps to de-escalate the crisis and restore security for all citizens.

The document calls on all sides to refrain from any violence, intimidation and provocative actions.

A decision was also reached at the meeting that OSCE monitors are to play a "leading role" in helping Ukraine carry out the de-escalation measures.

"The U.S., the EU and Russia commit to support this mission, including by providing monitors," the statement says.
