KYIV. April 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian presidential candidate, Batkivshchyna party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has urged EU leaders to impose third-level sanctions on Russia if the latter disregards the Geneva agreements.
"I have just had a meeting with Elmar Brok, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs. We discussed the situation on the eastern and southern borders of Ukraine. All of us hope that the Russian Federation will fulfill the Geneva agreements, i.e. unblock the administrative buildings in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian territory," the Batkivshchyna website quoted Tymoshenko as saying after the meeting with Brok.
She also asked Brok to impose third-level sanctions on Russia in the case that the latter failed to abide by the Geneva agreements.
"I heard an answer, which was very important for Ukraine. Elmar Brok said that the EU leaders would gather on Thursday to approve third-level sanctions on the Russian Federation if the aggression did not stop, the buildings were not unblocked and the Russian troops did not leave the Donetsk region and, actually, other regions where they might be staying," Tymoshenko emphasized.
