Kazakhstan, Russia strategic partners, allies - Nazarbayev

ASTANA. April 18 (Interfax) - Relations with Russia at all cooperation levels are an important aspect of Kazakhstan's foreign political activities, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

"Today we see an acute crisis in international politics. I am saying amid these difficult conditions that Kazakhstan and Russia are good neighbors and strategic partners," Nazarbayev said when speaking in at the 21st session of the Kazakh people's assembly on Friday.

Kazakhstan and Russia "have various treaties in this regard and last year we signed an agreement on good neighborly relations and cooperation in the 21st century and an agreement on energy cooperation in general," the president said.

The two countries will hold all ratifying procedures on these documents soon, Nazarbayev said. "Relations with Russia were and are an important aspect of our foreign policy," he said.

"I want to emphasize one again that Central Asian countries, Russia and China are our neighbors. And one does not choose one's neighbors. So we have always had, have and will have the closest friendship with our neighbors," Nazarbayev said.
