Moscow satisfied with German authorities' reaction to appeal to remove Soviet tanks from memorial in Berlin

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Moscow said it was satisfied with the reaction of the German authorities to the appeal to dismantle tanks near the memorial to killed Soviet soldiers in central Berlin.

"We are satisfied with the quick response of the official German authorities. Initiators of the provocation could be advised not to lose time and efforts on its implementation," the Russian Foreign Ministry posted a statement on Friday with regard to assessing the appeals voiced in German mass media outlets that signatures should be gather for the dismantlement of the tanks.

"The assessment is absolutely clear. This is an attempt to launch yet another propaganda balloon with a view to its durability and long-term effect. It was a dead end. Representatives of German's federal government and Berlin senate have spoken on this issue repeatedly and confirmed the commitment of united Germany to the international legal obligations taken, including taking care of the Russian military burials, to which the memorial in Berlin's Tiergarten district refers, of course," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
