Geneva Apr 17 deal concerning Ukraine does not apply to Euro-Maidan protesters - acting foreign minister

KYIV. April 18 (Interfax) - The agreements between Russia, the U.S., the EU, and Ukraine in Geneva on April 17 on unblocking roads, streets, and squares by protesters do not concern those rallying on Independence Square (Maidan) in central Kyiv, acting Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsya said.

"If you read these agreements carefully, you'll see that the matter is about leaving streets, roads, and squares that have been illegally occupied by the protesters. As far as I know, the activists are staying on Maidan legally," Deshchytsya said.

Euro-Maidan activists have occupied Independence Square and part of Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv since November 2013. During mass protests last winter, activists also occupied for some time European Square, part of Hrushevsky Street and Instytutska Street.
