OSCE rep on media freedom Mijatovic sends wrong messages when mentioning Crimea - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - The fact that Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) media freedom representative Dunja Mijatovic puts violence against Russian reporters in Ukraine and the process of mass media adaptation in Crimea on the same table is unacceptable, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"While urging the Ukrainian authorities to stop violence regarding journalists, Mijatovic however ignores the geopolitical changes in the region and sends the wrong message by mentioning Crimea," the Russian Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department said in a statement regarding Mijatovic's assessment of the situation in Crimea.

"We think that it is utterly unacceptable that the OSCE representative put clear physical violence regarding reporters covering events in Ukraine and the adaptation process of mass media outlets functioning in the Russian region to the demands of the existing national legislation on the same table," the document said.
