Lavrov: Western sanctions against Russia go against common sense (Part 2)

HAVANA. April 29 (Interfax) - Russia rejects the U.S. and EU sanctions connected with the crisis in Ukraine as going against common sense, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said ahead of the talks with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday.

"Like you, we reject sanctions of all kinds, including sanctions connected with Ukraine, introduced by the United States and the European Union contrary to common sense," Lavrov said.

"Attempts to shift the blame to someone else is something usually done by weak politicians, or politicians who see their political ambitions falling through and who want to work their frustration off," Lavrov said.

He thanked his Cuban counterpart "for understanding and resolute support for the Russian position in connection with the crisis in Ukraine, caused by a West-supported coup."

"We advocate the earliest possible settlement of the crisis via a pan-Ukrainian dialogue," he said.

Moscow opposes the Cuban embargo, he said. "In our opinion, it is absolutely unacceptable to maintain the embargo on Cuba contrary to the will of an overwhelming majority of UN member-states," he said.

Rodriguez said in turn that, "Havana does not accept the imposition of sanctions on Russia."

"I am sure that your visit is bringing another chance of broadening deep relations between our two countries," he said.
