MOSCOW. April 30 (Interfax) - Neither Ukraine nor Russia are so far ready for visa-free travel with the European Union, says Vygaudas Usackas, the head of the EU Delegation to Russia.
"At the present moment, Ukraine, as well as Russia, is not ready for this so far," Usackas said on Echo of Moscow radio on Tuesday.
Ukraine is currently "undergoing the same process as Russia, so that technical data and other parameters should comply with EU standards," he said.
Talking about new sanctions the EU has imposed on a number of Russian citizens, Usackas noted that Brussels is not interested in imposing sanctions on Russia and had to resort to these steps because of Moscow's position on the crisis in Ukraine.
The EU is "interested in obstacle-free treatment of ordinary people both in Russia and in Ukraine," he said.
