BELGRADE. May 6 (Interfax) - The United States confirmed its involvement in organizing the Ukrainian crisis by its remarks about the authorities' monopoly on using violence against citizens, Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin has said.
"Recent statements by the U.S. concerning the state's monopoly on violence against civilians serve as the real giveaway of the organizers of the Ukrainian crisis," Naryshkin said in Belgrade on Tuesday.
"At the beginning, they [the U.S. administration] were doing everything to prevent the use of force against the armed radicals on the Maidan, and then they helped the new Kyiv authorities, who were branded a "junta" by the Ukrainians themselves for a reason, to depose the legitimately elected head of the Ukrainian state. And today they are condoning the murders of peaceful citizens in Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Odesa and other points of resistance," he said.
"Like any disease, Nazism tends to progress in places that have no basic moral hygiene and fail to take prompt decontamination measures. As a result, we are all standing on the verge of a catastrophe," Naryshkin said.
"If there is still anyone who thinks that it [the catastrophe] is happening somewhere far away, and its consequences are important for Ukraine alone, and maybe partially for Russia, I will have to disappoint such people," Naryshkin said.
Such people are "either blind or have themselves become victims of this anti-Russian hysteria, which is turning into pro-fascist propaganda right in front of our eyes," the State Duma speaker said.
"The situation in Ukraine is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Law and order have been violated there, and human rights are rapidly losing their value," he said, adding that dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy might prove useful in these conditions.
"At the same time, this dialogue cannot be productive without our joint resolute discussions addressing both all acts of violence in Ukraine and the very method of coming to power used by the current Ukrainian leaders," he said.
"You need to understand that hints at the legitimacy of the anti-constitutional coup give those who inspired, organized and perpetrated it a carte blanche to commit new crimes," Naryshkin said.
Naryshkin called on European parliamentarians to "realize the full extent of their personal responsibility for the ongoing events, the threat of confrontation, as well as for condoning the actions that were recognized by the Nuremberg Trials as a crime against peace and humanity at such a dramatic moment for the entire world."
Naryshkin spoke at Belgrade's Balkans Dialogue Forum, which was attended by young experts from the Balkan countries and Russia. Russian parliamentarians took part in the forum as well.
Austrian MP Andreas Karlbock, Latvian Christian Democratic Party leader Armands Agrums, chairman of the "anti-fascist committee of Finland" Johan Backman, and leader of Bulgaria's Combat Friendship union Yavor Genov delivered their speeches at the event.
These people are known for their vigorous support of Russia's international policy and their criticism of the West and the United States, including their stance on the Ukrainian crisis.
The forum was organized in cooperation with the Gorchakov Foundation for Public Diplomacy.
