KYIV. May 13 (Interfax) - Activists of the unrecognized "Donetsk People's Republic" removed barricades from Lenin and Metallurgov Streets - two main streets of Mariupol, Donetsk region, - on Tuesday afternoon, the city portal 0629 said quoting the reports of eyewitnesses.
"Traffic was restored on those roads," it said.
Mariupol Mayor Yuriy Khotlubei said earlier he was holding negotiations with the "Donetsk People's Republic" activists about the unblocking of thoroughfares and assured the demonstrators that the barricades were meaningless because they were not been threatened any more, the portal said.
Meanwhile, the press service of the Mariupol City Council reported the normal operation of education establishments of the city.
Ukrainian law enforcers stormed the city police department in Mariupol on May 9 after the local police had barricaded themselves in and refused to obey by the orders from Kyiv.
A fire started and the police department burned to the ground.
The special operation in Mariupol claimed seven lives and another 39 people were injured, the regional administration's health department said.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said the fighting killed one law enforcer and injured five. He claimed the deaths of about 20 militiamen and the capture of four.
According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, eight servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were hurt in the operation.
