GPS stations suspension won't impact GLONASS projects - integrator

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Suspension of eleven GPS reference stations in Russia would not impact projects being run by the Navigation-Information Systems company (NIS GLONASS), including ERA-GLONASS, System-112 and intellectual urban transport navigation systems.

"The Russian GLONASS system has always been a priority for us. All our projects are based on GLONASS, therefore suspension of the GPS reference systems will not impact our work," NIS GLONASS General Director Fyodor Barmin said, according to a statement received by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"Nor will the suspension affect the most large-scale of the company's current projects - the ERA GLONASS emergency response system," the statement says, citing Barmin.

The company uses equipment with a combined chip to receive GLONASS and GPS signals, it says. "But we are working in a changing market. As a developer of navigation services we will use the data we have at our disposal without changing the quality of the product," Barmin said.

Navigation-Information Systems is a systems integrator for major GLONASS satellite technology adoption projects in Russia. The company is implementing several thousand projects of varying scale from the Sochi Logistics Transport Center's software support to logistics backup for private companies in Russian regions.
