About 70 militants surrender, return to peaceful life in Ingushetia over few years - Yevkurov

MAGAS. May 26 (Interfax) - Preventative efforts being made jointly by the Ingush authorities, law enforcement services and public have helped persuade young people to leave the ranks of militants and to get adjusted to peaceful life, said Ingushetia's head, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.

"Over the past few years alone, 67 suspected members of criminal armed groups have heeded the voice of reason, responded to the authorities' call and returned to their families. They are working with no questions arising about their work," Yevkurov said at a meeting in Magas on the results of a special operation to neutralize militants led by Artur Gatagazhayev.

Yevkurov praised the law enforcement personnel, saying that attempts had been made on many occasions to influence the militants through their relatives into turning themselves in to the authorities, laying down arms and returning to peaceful life.
