SUKHUMI. May 28 (Interfax) - Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab has given an interview to Abkhaz television, which will be aired soon.
Ankvab emphasized he "had not gone anywhere." "I am here," the president stated.
He said he was working together with the Abkhaz Security Council and contemplating various scenarios.
"Our efforts are centered on keeping the situation on the legal track," he said. "There is no other way."
The Abkhaz president told television about negotiations with the opposition and the seizure of the presidential administration's building.
"We were negotiating ways to achieve normalization. Various issues were being discussed. There were categorical demands of my resignation. Then it was suggested that resignation of the entire cabinet of ministers might be necessary alongside the removal from office of the prosecutor general and the heads of two districts, the Tkuarchal and Gal districts," he said.
"The debates were paused several times at their request and at our request and it happened so that during the last discussion in response to our request for a possibility to talk some nuances behind closed doors the opposition delegates turned around and went down to join their supporters staying near the administration building. After that the building was actually stormed," the Abkhaz president said.
"A large group of people, some of them armed, came to the Abkhaz State Television at night and practically seized it," he said.
"Clearly, security guards could have taken adequate measures but everyone is aware of what consequences that might have had," the republican leader said.
