Tbilisi demonstrators calling for diplomatic ties with Russia to be restored pelted with eggs

TBILISI. May 28 (Interfax) - A group of young men on Wednesday attempted to disrupt a rally staged by Eurasian Choice, a nongovernmental organization, outside the building of the presidential palace in Tbilisi.

Police prevented direct contact between the demonstrators and their opponents.

However, despite the police efforts, Eurasian Choice opponents managed to pelt the demonstrators with eggs.

A day earlier Eurasian Choice leader Archil Chkoidze told reporters that during their rally outside the presidential palace his organization members would demand from the Georgian president that he restore diplomatic relations with Russia and that he hoped that pro-Eurasian choice supporters in Georgian regions would come to Tbilisi and join the rally.

Despite the incident, the rally outside the presidential palace continues, an Interfax correspondent said.
