KYIV. May 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine's acting defense minister Mykhailo Koval said the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has not used reactive artillery in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
"We used artillery several times during the anti-terrorist operation. However, it was used on separatists' positions on open territories," Koval told the parliament, responding to a question as to whether Grad systems were used near Slovyansk.
Koval said he can say "in detail" where, when and how the enemy's mortars were used against Ukrainian checkpoints.
"We now have installed a group of mortars at every checkpoint so they can fire back. The junctions involved in the anti-terrorist operation have reactive artillery, but it has not been used. It's a very powerful weapon, it hits large areas, it's dangerous, we are not going to do it," he said.
