SUKHUMI. June 5 (Interfax) - Members of the Abkhaz parliament have dismissed Safarbei Mikanba from the post of the republic's prosecutor general.
The Abkhaz People's Council voted in favor of this decision on Thursday in response to an appropriate proposal submitted by the republic's acting President Valery Bganba.
Mikanba's dismissal was one of the demands put forth by the coordination council of opposition parties and movements, which took over the presidential administration building on May 27, forcing Abkhaz head Alexander Ankvab to resign.
Bganba, who also holds the post of Abkhazia's parliament speaker, denied rumors claiming preparations to debate a possible association treaty between Abkhazia and Russia.
"I would like to ask you not to circulate any unfounded rumors and not to fuel tensions," he said.
"Should such a document exist, you, respected deputies, would be the first to learn this," he added.
