Rosoboronexport ready to supply India with two types of Smerch systems

PARIS. June 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Rosoboronexport has offered two types of heavy multiple rocket launchers to India, Rosoboronexport Deputy General Director Igor Sevastyanov told Interfax-AVN.

"The Indian Army has a number of regiments armed with Russia's Smerch launchers. These systems have proven their worth in the course of exercises, so there is an interest in new deliveries. There is also an interest in the light Smerch modification, which carries six instead of twelve tubes and is mounted on a KAMAZ truck," Sevastyanov said.

This Smerch modification "is more maneuverable and lighter, which broadens the possibility of its combat use," he said.

"We are ready to supply both Smerch modifications, and the choice is up to India. In addition, we are carrying on consultations on the joint projection of ammunition for these launchers in India," said Sevastyanov, who heads the Rosoboronexport delegation to the Eurosatory land and air-land defense and security exhibition in Paris on June 16-20.
