Drones, combat robots support Russian exercises in Baltic Sea rgn

KALININGRAD. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Unmanned aerial vehicles and Platforma-M combat robots are supporting exercises of the Russian Baltic Fleet, the Airborne Forces and the Air Force in the Kaliningrad region, the Baltic Fleet press service said.

Grusha drones are engaged in the practice of Russian coastal units and airborne forces. They help assess target destruction effectiveness, adjust artillery and tank fire and support reconnaissance units.

Drones significantly reduce the target location time. They are capable of tracing several targets simultaneously even if the targets are camouflaged while the drones remain invisible.

Tracked combat robots Platforma-M armed with four grenade launchers and a Kalashnikov machine gun support motorized infantry units and paratroopers fighting illegal armed units in the urban area and strike on stationary and mobile targets. The robots also assist in reconnaissance and making lanes in minefields "deployed" by the simulated enemy.

The Western Military District commander is supervising exercises of the Baltic Fleet, the Airborne Forces and the Air Force in the Kaliningrad region.

The drill is held simultaneously with international exercises Saber Strike-2014 and Baltops-2014 in Europe. Russian Defense Ministry forces engaged in the exercises in the Kaliningrad region are comparable with the personnel, armaments and military hardware involved in the NATO exercises in border areas.
