Rosatom expects to sign contract on two more nuclear power blocks in Iran before year-end

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - The Rosatom state corporation expects to sign the supplementary contract on construction of two new nuclear power blocks in Iran before the end of the year.

"Negotiations are underway. They are in the concluding stages. We actually began this work last year and expect that we will be ready for a final signing of both the supplement to the intergovernmental agreement and the corresponding contracts before year-end," Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko told journalists in response to a question from an Interfax correspondent.

Kiriyenko declined to provide details of the agreements, citing the ongoing negotiations. "Everything must be completed before the end of the year. Perhaps it will come about before that," he said.

The key is the supplement to the existing intergovernmental agreement. "Most likely, from the standpoint of technical requirements, this concerns two blocks. But, in principle, our intergovernmental agreement enables development of more extensive cooperation," he said.
