Matviyenko sees no need to bring peacekeepers to southeastern Ukraine to stabilize situation there

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - No need exists for bringing Russian peacemaking forces to Donbas and Luhansk, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

"As of today no necessity exists to bring any a contingent there. This is a Ukrainian domestic political crisis and it is necessary to settle the situation in the framework of negotiating process involving the southeast, Kyiv and Russia," Matviyenko said when commenting on the appeal of Governor of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Pavlo Gubarev on bringing Russian peacekeepers to Donbas and Luhansk.

Every effort should be made to continue searching for a peaceful solution to stabilize the situation in southeastern Ukraine, not turning to such a scenario [bringing peacekeepers]," she said.
