Int'l competition on military engineers begins in southern Russia

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of engineering forces of the CIS states will compete in moving armored vehicles across water obstacles and clearing forest heaps, the Southern Military District press office said.

"A competition of engineering forces started today in the Southern Military District at the base of the training center for engineering force junior specialists in the Volgograd region and subdivisions of the Russian, Kazakh, Belarusian and Armenian armed forces are competing in it," the press office said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

Teams from each country will have 14 servicemen and Russian engineering troops will be represented by servicemen of the training center deployed in Volgograd region, the document said.

During the international competition military engineers will use engineering and intelligence devices to load and move Tiger armored vehicles over PTS-2 amphibious tracked carriers across water obstacles of over 100 meters, the press office said.

Engineering crews will make passages through natural barriers and will clear a forest heap using bulldozing kits and engineering equipment,

Promising engineering equipment and special equipment, robotic intelligence means to destroy highly explosive items will be presented after the competition, the press office said.
