TBILISI. July 7 (Interfax) - Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze passed away on Monday, his press office told Interfax.
"Shevardnadze died today," the press office said.
The former president was 86 years old - he was born on January 25, 1928.
Shevardnadze worked as interior minister of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, first secretary of the Georgian Communist Party Central Committee and foreign minister of the Soviet Union. Shevardnadze was Georgian president in 1995-2003.
