SEVASTOPOL. July 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Ships of the Novorossiysk naval base waterway protection unit have departed from the base for a dispersal area, Russian Black Sea Fleet spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Vyacheslav Trukhachev told Interfax-AVN on Monday.
"At the initial stage of the exercises tactical groups of Novorossiysk naval base destroyers practiced protection from submarines of a simulated enemy independently and jointly with anti-sub planes and helicopters," Trukhachev said.
Then the ships shifted into a duel mode with live torpedo and artillery fire exercises and trained air defense of a naval unit in transit in the deterrence of an air raid of the simulated enemy - Sukhoi Su-24 jets of the Russian Black Sea Fleet seaborne aviation.
Now the ships will be practicing operations within tactical groups of destroyers and minesweepers to protect sea routes and bases in collaboration with coastal missile and artillery units of the fleet, Trukhachev said.
