Ukrainian govt forces seize control over Kostiantynivka city in Donetsk region

KYIV. July 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian defense minister, Col. Gen. Valeriy Heletei, has reported to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that a national Ukrainian flag has been raised above the city council building in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region.

"A special-forces squad has completed the demining of the city council in the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, above which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have installed a national flag," Heletei said, according to a spokesperson for the Ukrainain head of state.

Konstantinovka is a major city in Ukraine's Donetsk region (approximately 60 kilometers from Donetsk) and the administrative center of the Kostiantynivka district. The city is located in the north of the region on the Krivoy Torets river (a tributary of the Kazenny Torets River in the Seversky Donets Basin). It has a railway station and a population of around 100,000.
