U.S. should realize its responsibility in Ukraine events - Lavrov

SOFIA. July 7 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on the United States to admit its responsibility for what is happening in east Ukraine.

"The leading European countries understand their responsibility for what is happening; we want them to be joined by the United States of America in understanding this responsibility," the minister said after talks with his Bulgarian counterpart in Sofia on Monday.

The minister called on foreign partners to set all their ambitions aside and think of saving civilians in east Ukraine.

"I am convinced that the truce will help start talks that will make it possible to agree upon the generally acceptable parameters for further political process, with full regard for the interests of all Ukrainian regions and with fair conditions that guarantee the rights for all groups of the population," Lavrov said.

At the same time, the minister stressed that the current situation in east Ukraine is reminiscent of Belgrade in the spring and summer of 1999.
