DONETSK. July 8 (Interfax) - The anti-government armed formations are building up defenses in other localities of the Donetsk region following their retreat from some cities, the press service of the Donetsk regional state administration reported on Monday.
"The militants who arrived in Donetsk from cities liberated by the Ukrainian military, are headquartered in earlier seized buildings. They are setting up checkpoints and preparing for renewed combat operations. Militants of the 'Donetsk People's Republic' have strengthened the checkpoint on the limits of Kirovskiy. Although the city is being patrolled by volunteers, the militia assumed responsibility for maintaining order in the city. Five armored vehicles have been deployed in Khartsyzsk between Zuyevka and Zugress. A militia group has locked Ilovaisk in a siege," it said.
Militiamen continue local attacks on Ukrainian servicemen, the press service said. The checkpoint, set up by the National Guard, was attacked in the Amvrosiyevska district. Fifteen militiamen who had arrived at the village of Obryv in the Novoazovsk district in two boats fired shots at a border checkpoint, a post office and other state establishments. Ukrainian servicemen sustained losses, the press service said.
Supporters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic continue recruiting fighters to armed formations, including in Horlivka, Donetsk and Shakhtyorsk, the regional state administration said.
Meanwhile, mines are being removed from roads, bridges and buildings in liberated populated areas, and ammunition is being removed and destroyed. The treasury has resumed work in Kramatorsk, Slovyansk and in the Slovyansk region. Salaries for May have been transferred to employees of state-run organizations. Efforts have begun to re-launch Ukrainian television channels' broadcasts, it said.
" Supplies of food, drinking water and humanitarian aid are being organized. Commuter train services have been restored in full along the Southern Railway, suspended on May 2. The railway stations Slovyansk and Krasny Liman are under repairs. Ukrainian symbols are being put in place on administrative buildings," the regional administration said.
