KYIV. July 8 (Interfax) - Special units of the Ukrainian police and National Guard will be in charge of maintaining public order in Artemivsk, the Donetsk region, which the Ukrainian security forces recently taken control of, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said.
"We have made the decision to step up the city's security by [engaging] special police units […] and a special National Guard unit that will be deployed within the city boundaries to ensure your peace," Avakov said in Arvemivsk in introducing Kostyantyn Mateichenko, the commander of the Interior Ministry's Artemivsk special battalion, as head of the Artemivsk district administration.
Armed forces units will leave Artemivsk, the National Guard press service quoted Avakov as saying.
It was reported earlier that Ukrainian security forces had taken control of Artemivsk and Druzhkivka on July 6.
