MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - Specialists still do not know enough about space radiation to send a human to Mars or build a habitable lunar station, said Prof. Mikhail Panasyuk, Director at the Research Institute of Nuclear Physics.
"Because of space radiation, so far we have been unable to send a human to Mars and build a sustainable lunar station. For now we cannot assess with 100% accuracy the radiation risks a human can be exposed to," Panasyuk told a conference on the occasion of the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket with a cluster of seven satellites on Tuesday.
He said the Relec satellite launched today, which is fitted with research equipment designed by scientists from Moscow State University, will help study the complex space environment and space radiation.
