MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - Israel is not showing the aggression that Palestine has been urging everyone to condemn - the Jewish state is only defending the interests of its citizens, said Israeli Ambassador to Russia Dorit Golender.
"There is no Israeli aggression, Israel is defending its citizens," Golender told a press conference at the Interfax head office in Moscow on Monday.
She was commenting on the calls by Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa on the UN Security Council to pass at its next meeting a resolution condemning Israel's actions.
"Israel did not want any action, it was pursuing a restrained policy," Golender said. "Israel cannot accept attacks on civilians in Israeli cities," he said.
The Jewish state "hears an air raid siren every two minutes, warning the Israelis that they should hide from the attacks," the ambassador said.
While "Hamas is using its citizens as a human shield, we behave very humanely," she said. "The Defense Army of Israel is trying to prevent the deaths of Palestinians," Golender said.
Last week Israel launched an offensive codenamed Pillar of Defense in response to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.
