Aerospace Defense Troops start deploying brand new ground space control systems - defense ministry

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Over the next four years the Russian Aerospace Defense (VKO) Troops will deploy a network of laser optic and radio systems of new-generation space object identification, said Lt. Gen. Alexander Golovko, the Commander of the VKO Troops.

"The introduction of the new systems will help increase significantly the capabilities of the VKO Troops in space monitoring, broaden the range of monitored orbits and decrease the minimum size of detected space objects to one half or one-third," said Golovko, summing up the outcomes of an inspection of the construction of the VKO Troops Space Command's priority assets in the Altai and Krasnoyarsk Territories.
