DUSHANBE. July 24 (Interfax) - Drugs that were seized from drug mules were destroyed in Dushanbe on Thursday, the Tajik Interior Ministry said in a statement.
"A total of 75 kg of heroin, 352 kg of hashish, 24 kg of opium, 28 kg of cannabis and over 4,000 cannabis bushes were burned in a furnace at the Tajiktextilmash plant," the document said.
The drugs, which were physical evidence in criminal cases which have already come into effect, were destroyed in the presence of a committee.
In January-March 2014 the Tajik law enforcement authorities seized 1,260.8 kg of drug substances.
Tajikistan shares 1,344-km border with Afghanistan, the longest one in Central Asia. A total of 6,686.5 kg of drugs were seized in 2013, which is up 11.8% year-on-year. Drugs transit via Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, Russia, Western and Eastern Europe.
