CSTO peacekeeping forces to exercise resisting mass disturbances during drills in Kyrgyzstan

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Joint drills Unbreakable Brotherhood 2014 with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping forces will be held in Kyrgyzstan between July 29 and August 1.

"In the framework of the operation on maintaining peace, CSTO peacekeeping forces will work on tasks amid remote mountain areas. Including on guarding important state facilities, resisting mass disturbances and convoying humanitarian cargo," CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zaynetdinov told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

The drills "are of open character and it is no coincidence that representatives of some international and regional organizations were invited to the exercises as observers," he said.

It is planned to carry out Unbreakable Brotherhood in four days in several stages. CSTO united headquarters will head the drills during the first stage and Kyrgyz Armed Forces general staff during the second and third.

Since CSTO leaders signed an agreement on CSTO peacekeeping activities such drills are held in the framework of the organization for the third time. Prior to this exercises with CSTO peacemaking contingents took place in Kazakhstan in 2012 and in Russia in 2013.

"The Central Asian collective security region has been a priority one when planning in 2014 events on joint operative and battle training of CSTO management bodies and forming forces and means of the collective security system," Zaynetdinov said.
