Donetsk militia claims taking Marynivka border checkpoint under control

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - Militiamen in the Donetsk region of Ukraine opposing the Ukrainian government forces have claimed taking the Marynivka checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Russian border under control.

"Units of the DPR [the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic] army have fought their way to the border with the Russian Federation and have taken the Marynivka border checkpoint under control," DPR said on Twitter on Satrurday.

The militiamen said also that the Ukrainian armed forces have shelled the Marynivka checkpoint. "The Marynivka checkpoint and the adjacent Russian territory have been continually shelled by the Ukrainian army. The militiamen are holding their positions near the checkpoint," it said.

The fighting around the Marynivka checkpoint has been under way over the past several days.
