BRUSSELS. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Claims made by leaders of the North Atlantic alliance are reminiscent of Cold War rhetoric, according to the Russian permanent mission to NATO.
"Unfounded remarks by NATO leaders immerse the alliance into a Cold-War atmosphere," the Russian permanent mission wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
A day earlier NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said at his meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (near Mons, Belgium) that Russia is ostensibly waging aggression against Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Rasmussen's deputy Alexander Vershbow wrote on Twitter that Russia amassed around 20,000 of its troops along the border with Ukraine. He alleged that nations are queuing up to join NATO to ensure their security.
Vershbow sees this as proof of NATO's relevance.
