KYIV. Aug 11 (Interfax) - There were no Ukrainian citizens aboard the Antonov-140 cargo and passenger plane that crashed in Iran on Sunday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
"There were no Ukrainian citizens aboard the plane. Media reports claiming that the plane's captain is a Ukrainian national are not true," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vasyl Zvarych told Interfax.
At least 40 people were killed, seven of them children, when a plane crashed in Iran, earlier reports said. Nine people survived the air disaster, but no information is available about how seriously they were hurt.
Sepahan Airlines' An-140, performing a domestic flight, crashed shortly after it departed from the Mehrabad airport on Sunday morning, purportedly due to an engine problem. Experts are working at the scene of the crash.
Media reported earlier, citing an Iranian information agency, that the plane's pilot was a Ukrainian national.
