SOCHI. Aug 13 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who is currently in Russia on a formal visit, boarded the guards missile cruiser Moskva moored at the sea port in Sochi on Tuesday.
The supreme commander-in-chief was welcomed on board by the crew and the cruiser commander, 1st Captain Sergei Tronev.
The two countries' anthems were played in honor of the two heads of state. Then Tronev took the presidents on a tour of the ship, telling them which combat tasks it can perform.
"The cruiser is designed to provide combat stability for ships in the ocean zone and to destroy carrier strike groups," Tronev said.
In particular, the two heads of state were shown Bazalt (Basalt) launchers with Vulkan (Volcano) cruise missiles with a firing range of up to 550 kilometers.
The missile is capable of delivering a special charge, it weighs six tonnes, the commander said.
Tronev explained how missiles are guided during launch, noting that the missile has a supersonic speed of 600 meters per second.
The ship commander also described in detail other armament mounted on the cruiser, in particular, the S-300 air defense missile system.
Over time S-300s will be replaced with S-400s, Putin said.
