FSKN officer accused of forming heroin dealing group to stand trial

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - A criminal inquiry into former head of a Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) department Grant Akopyan is over. He is accused of forming a heroin dealing group, Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.

"The detectives have collected enough evidence, so the Akopyan case and the approved bill of indictment have been referred to a court, which will consider the case merits," Markin told Interfax on Thursday.

The former head of the FSKN operational investigations department's division for the suppression of drug crime is accused of drug trafficking and the abuse of office.

According to the detectives, Akopyan "set up an organized criminal group in 2010 to illegally sell large quantities of heroin. The group involved drug dealers and persons convicted of such crimes."

"Depending on the criminal role assigned to them, the hitherto unknown accomplices of Akopyan obtained and packed heroin, which was later sold to customers found by other accomplices of Akopyan serving time in prison. Akopyan was dealing drugs himself," Markin said.

While dealing drugs, the officer improved his work performance with the detention of his own customers, he said.
