BERLIN. Aug 18 (Interfax) - The West should use its influence on the military units involved in the military operation in Ukraine that do not report to Kyiv to make them stop fighting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"The Kyiv administration does not control the numerous armed groups, in particular, Right Sector, of which, according to our estimations, the National Guard is largely composed," he told reporters.
"The Kyiv administration does not control the battalions that were created by oligarchs: Azov, Dnieper, etc.," Lavrov said.
Lavrov called this situation a serious problem.
"For this reason, we do not only insist that the Kyiv administration should begin nationwide dialogue with all regions, on which an agreement was reached in Geneva, but show to the southeast that it is interested in national truce," Lavrov said.
"However, we are also working with our Western colleagues, primarily in Europe and the U.S., who can really influence the militarized units that do not report to the central administration in Kyiv. We know that the West has such influence," he said.
