YEREVAN. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Armenia is concerned about the continuing massive violence against the Yazidis in northern Iraq and the numerous fatalities which the violence brings, Armenia's presidential press secretary, Arman Sagatelian, said in a statement on Monday.
"The use of violence against any ethnic or religious minority, including the Yazidis, is absolutely unacceptable. The international community must take urgent measures to cut it short, to aid the victims and to provide them with relief supplies," the statement says.
"We are extremely concerned about the continuing mass violence against the Yazidi population in the north of Iraq and by the heavy loss of life connected with it," it says.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan instructed the Armenian Foreign Ministry and Armenian ambassadors to foreign countries "to redouble their efforts and to be consistent on this issue in the international arena," Sagatelian said.
"The problem remains in the focus of the Armenian leadership's attention. Armenian will, whenever possible, provide support to the friendly Yazidi people in this time of trials," he said.
The Armenian government earlier approved a plan to send $50,000 in relief aid to the Yazidis in Iraq.
