Western Military District rescuers make over 25 parachute jumps in two weeks - ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Western Military District rescuers practicing at the Ostrov airfield in the Pskov region have made over 25 parachute jumps each, the district staff reported.

"District rescue service specialists are compelled to make at least 50 parachute jumps a year," says the report seen by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

The rescuers jumped from Mil Mi-8 helicopters flying at 800 to 2,000 meter levels.

In all, 850 jumps have been accomplished using all types of parachutes - rescue, sport and special-purpose Arbalet-1, Arbalet-2, Malva-24, D1-5U and others.

"In addition to parachute jumps, the rescuers also practiced the packing of ejection seat parachutes in combat planes, visually searching for aircraft in distress and the airdropping of cargo. Direct deployments using a hoist and specialized equipment and evacuation of the injured were practiced, too," the report said.

The training was carried out on August 4-18 and involved 30 rescuers and parachute packing specialists from all air force units of the Western Military District stationed from Kaliningrad to Nizhny Novgorod and from Voronezh to Murmansk, it said.
