KYIV. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has authorized Defense Minister Valeriy Heletei to sign an agreement between the governments of Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland on the formation of a joint military unit.
This is stipulated in Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 732 of July 9, which amends government resolution No. 504 of May 27.
As reported, on May 27, the Ukrainian Cabinet approved a draft agreement on the creation of a Ukrainian-Lithuanian-Polish military brigade.
The agreement was expected to be signed within a month.
Earlier, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry asked the Lithuanian government to authorize Juozas Olekas to sign a trilateral intergovernmental agreement on the creation of the LitPolUkrBrig Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade.
According to BNS, the trilateral project was launched in November 2009, when the defense ministers of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine signed a document expressing intentions to establish a trilateral military unit - a brigade, and thus contribute to strengthening regional and Euro-Atlantic stability and security.
