YEREVAN. Aug 22 (Interfax) - The Azeri armed forces continue to violate the ceasefire, the Armenian Defense Ministry said.
"According to the reports filed by the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army in the period from August 17 through 22, the Azeri Armed Forces have violated the ceasefire in the Karabakh sector about 240 times; more than 1,900 rounds have been fired from weapons of various calibers," a source in the Armenian Defense Ministry press service told Interfax on Friday.
"The truce was breached about 48 times and more than 300 shots were fired along the Armenian-Azeri state border," he noted.
'The armed forces of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh mostly honored the ceasefire and returned fire only when that was absolutely necessary," the Defense Ministry pointed out.
Azerbaijan's violations of the ceasefire demonstrate that "the armed forces of that country and the Defense Ministry administration deliberately stage provocations aimed to create tensions along the Armenian-Azeri contact line or Azeri armed forces units deployed in the border zone disobey the central command, act arbitrarily and are not accountable for the spent munitions to their superiors," it said.
"The Armenian Defense Ministry once again urges the Azeri side to abstain from steps which may escalate tensions and to take efficient measures towards stabilization along the border line," the ministry said in a report.
